Nashville Honky Tonks

PROMOTIONAL EVENT DESIGN

————————

For the 2017 season, the Nashville Sounds and the Round Rock Express wanted to expand on their team’s rivalry within the Pacific Coast League. Each team would be rebranded for their matchups to represent their city’s music heritage and a traveling trophy called “Battle for the Boot” would be awarded to the team with the most wins against the other at the end of the season. I was tasked with the design and branding for the Nashville Sounds, who chose the name Honky Tonks based on Nashville’s live music scene.

A Honky Tonk is a a bar that provides live music to its patrons, typically of the country music genre. Nashville has become a hub for musicians to test out their talents in order to get the ear of a major record label, which Nashville has about 24 of them. People from all over the world travel to Nashville’s bar district on Broadway to experience one of many of Nashville’s Honky Tonks to enjoy live music, do a little dancing, and get a peak of future music talent trying to make it big.

From the start, ownership wanted the designs to be based off of the vibrant neon signs that cover the building sides of Nashville’s Broadway district. These large neon signs adorn the name of a honky tonk or retail shop along the thoroughfare.

Imagery of existing places such as Second Fiddle, Honky Tonk Central, and Betty Boots were all used for inspiration for the final designs.
